Patriots vs Chiefs

Patriots vs Chiefs : No. 2 seed New England is in the rare role of playoff underdog for the later of the two conference title clashes, with a 6:40 p.m. ET kickoff. In the divisional round, the Patriots (12-5 SU, 10-7 ATS) rolled to a massive 35-7 halftime lead against the Los Angeles Chargers and eased to a 41-28 victory laying 3.5 points at home.

Likewise, No. 1 seed Kansas City had little trouble in the divisional round. The Chiefs (13-4 SU, 10-6-1 ATS) built a 24-7 halftime advantage against Indianapolis en route to a 31-13 victory as 4-point home favorites.

These two teams had a memorable mid-October meeting, with New England winning a shootout 43-40 as 3.5-point home chalk.

MGM sportsbooks, including The Mirage, have taken monster bets on both sides: a $500,000 wager Friday night on Patriots moneyline at +750; and one player spreading $470,000 over four wagers on the Chiefs -3, at prices ranging from -110 to -120, with the latest $120,000 coming in Saturday night. That hiked the price to -125.

“With the Chiefs on the pointspread, we’re a mid-six-figure loser, and with the Patriots on the moneyline, we’re a mid-six-figure loser,” Shelton said. “We can’t lose both of those, but we have a chance to win both.”

That would require a Chiefs win and a Patriots cover, of course. Shelton said another bettor also came in Friday night with a $170,000 moneyline bet on the Chiefs at -170, and a $100,000 play on K.C. to win the Super Bowl at +240.

Not to be forgotten, the total opened at 57 and dipped to 55 on weather concerns, before rebounding to 56.

“We’re a low-six-figure loser to the Under, believe it or not. It’s because of the weather, but the weather is looking better, so we’re apt to take some Over money now,” Shelton said.

NFC Championship Game
Los Angeles Rams at New Orleans Saints – Open: -3; Move: -3.5; Move: -3

New Orleans is the No. 1 seed in the NFC, but hasn’t seen much pointspread success of late, dropping four in a row and five of six against the oddsmakers. The Saints (14-3 SU, 10-7 ATS) climbed out of a 14-0 first-quarter hole against Philadelphia in the divisional round, holding the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way in a 20-14 victory as 8.5-point home faves.

No. 2 seed Los Angeles grinded its way into this 3:05 p.m. ET meeting for the NFC crown. Behind running backs Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson, the Rams (14-3 SU, 8-8-1 ATS) racked up 273 rushing yards against No. 4 Dallas in a 30-22 win giving 7.5 points at home.

These two teams also met in the regular season, with the Saints claiming a 45-35 Week 9 victory as 1.5-point home underdogs.

The same bettor who took the Patriots for $500,000 on the moneyline also took Over 57 in this contest for another $500,000, the largest bet MGM books have ever seen on a total. And a separate bettor put $125,000 on the Over late Saturday night, moving the total to 57.5.

“We need the Under,” Shelton said, though MGM books did get a little help with a low-6-figure bet on Under 57.5. “If we get the Under, we cut down the nets on that game. If it goes Over, we get our heads kicked in. We can’t get bailed out by either side.”

Pointspread and moneyline action for Rams-Saints isn’t quite as thrilling as it is in the AFC title tilt.

“This game is boring by comparison,” Shelton said. “I’ve never seen a ticket count and money count so close on the pointspread. Right now, the worst-case scenario is the Saints winning by 3.”

That would also mean the Saints continue to weigh heavy on MGM books, as the largest remaining Super Bowl futures liability.

“We’d like to get rid of the Saints. We’re a seven-figure loser to them in Mississippi,” Shelton said, noting the Rams outright and the Under would be a major winner for MGM.

Saints vs Rams

Saints vs Rams : The Conference Champion The Rams  will take on the Saints on Sunday, the NFC Championship game Sunday at 3:05 p.m. ET January 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, La.

The New Orleans Saints are a perfect 7-0 straight up in their last seven postseason home games and are 3-4 against the spread over that stretch. The Saints will try to earn an eighth straight playoff home win this Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Rams.New Orleans is a 3-point home favorite on the NFL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. The last 10 games between these two teams have been split with both teams going 5-5 SU, though the Rams hold a slight advantage of 6-4 ATS.

The Saints and their home fans were left shell-shocked last Sunday when the team dropped into an immediate 14-0 hole in the first quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles wouldn’t score another point however, and New Orleans eventually erased the deficit and survived with a 20-14 win.Since going 5-0 SU and ATS with five straight wins by 10 points or more, the Saints are 1-5 ATS over their last six games with two losses and only one win by more than six points.

Los Angeles with just two games left in the regular season as an insurance policy for Todd Gurley. But Anderson has been a lot more than that for the Rams with 422 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns through three games including a 123 yard and two touchdown effort in last Saturday’s 30-22 win over Dallas.Gurley also had 115 yards in the win, and the Rams are on a roll with a 3-0 SU and ATS record over their last three games.

Sunday’s total is set at 56.5 points at sports betting sites. The UNDER is 6-2 in New Orleans’ last eight games.New Orleans defeated Los Angeles 45-35 at home earlier this season in an impressive blowout victory. Over their last six games, however, the Saints are averaging only 19.2 points per game. It will be interesting to see if the New Orleans offense finds its groove for another shootout in this one or if it ends up being a more physical and low-scoring affair than many are expecting it to be.

The weather outside might be frightful, with many areas of the country getting slammed by Winter Storm Harper, but Sunday’s NFC Championship Game between the and emanates from the cozy indoor confines of the Superdome. When these teams met earlier this season, the Saints won by 10 in a game that saw 80 points scored, but this time around, the home team will be without wide receiver (calf) and tight end (illness). The Saints are favored by a field goal, the same as the opening line. Meanwhile, the Over-Under has seen movement and sits at 56.5 in the latest Rams vs. Saints odds, down a half-point from where it opened. Before you lock in any Rams vs. Saints picks and predictions of your own, be sure to check out what SportsLine’s R.J. White has to say.

White again emerged as the top pro football handicapper on SportsLine this season, hitting an astounding 62 percent of his spread selections and netting $100 bettors a profit of nearly $2,000. The stats guru also cashed big last season in the world’s most prestigious sports handicapping tournament, the Westgate Las Vegas SuperContest, where he has driven deep two of the past four years.

What’s more, White has a strong record of success in handicapping these teams, the Rams in particular. He boasts an impressive 20-5 spread mark in games involving the Rams over the past two seasons.

Just last week, White advised SportsLine members that Los Angeles (-7) would have success running the ball against Dallas, which would be the difference-maker. The Rams did just that, piling up 273 yards on the ground in their eight-point victory. Anyone who followed White’s advice booked another win.a

Meanwhile, Kansas City might be getting used to good results now that the squad has four wins in a row. They were able to grind out a solid win over Arizona last week, winning 26-14. The team accrued the bulk of their points in the first half (20) and coasted on those for the win.

Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 9-1. The Rams defense got after the quarterback against Seattle to the tune of four sacks, so Kansas City’s offensive line better have put in some good practice this past week in preparation for the matchup.

In a straight-up, pick’em format, the proprietary computer model went 176-80 last season and beat more than 95 percent of CBS Office Pool players in 2016 and 2017, performing better than 98 percent of experts tracked by NFLPickWatch.com during that span. Additionally, it went 48-34 on A-rated picks against the spread last season, and $100 bettors who followed it the past two seasons are up nearly $4,000.

The model has continued to nail its top-rated picks in 2018, entering Week 11 on a blistering 10-0 run. For the season, it is now 24-9 on all top-rated picks, extending its two-year run to a strong 72-43. Vikings vs Bears

Vikings vs Bears : Final Bears thoughts: Trubisky vs. ‘bad’ defenses, Floyd hitting his stride originally appeared on nbcsportschicago.com A common thought about Mitch Trubisky is that he’s only played well against bad defenses – the Buccaneers and Lions, most notably, with the Dolphins included in there too.

Vikings vs Bears Live

But it’s not like Trubisky just walked onto the field with 355 yards against the Lions last week. There were a number of decisions and throws he made that, while coming against a discombobulated and depleted defense, can carry over to when he faces a better defense Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings.

To wit: When Anthony Miller dashed open as the Lions blew a coverage, Trubisky still had to make the correct decision and right throw for it to turn into the 45-yard touchdown it did.

“Find an open guy and throw it to him. That’s what we did,” coach Matt Nagy said. “He has a progression. And so whether it’s a blown coverage or a wide receiver runs a good route and beats a guy, as long as he’s sticking within that progression and going from one, two, three, maybe four, or one, two, three, to run, etc., as long as he stays within that we’re good.”

This may seem like a bare minimum for a quarterback, but in the 2018 development of Trubisky, it’s important. He missed open receivers far too frequently in the first few games of the season, and still has had that problem crop up as recently as the Bears’ Week 7 loss to the New England Patriots.

But the Bears are seeing throw-to-throw development from Trubisky, no matter the defense they’re facing. And it’s that improved consistency with accuracy and decision-making that give this coaching staff confidence he’ll be able to handle a salty Vikings defense on Sunday night.

“We’ll do what we do,” Nagy said. “Every defense, every week is going to have a different scheme and a way to attack. They’re going to look at things that we do and try to prepare in their self-evaluation and their scouting reports on us. That’s the chess match of coaching. But we’ll continue to play the way we’ve been playing and if we feel like wherever our weaknesses are we’ll try to make those become strengths and vice versa.”

Leonard Floyd recorded his first sack of the season last week against the Lions, an important marker for the 2016 top-10 pick. But defensive coordinator Vic Fangio admitted something interesting in the days after Floyd brought down Matthew Stafford.

“A lot of what happened with Leonard, too, is those first four weeks with his hand, especially the first three with the cast, we probably played him too much,” Fangio said. “You guys are seeing him not being productive and start asking about a bunch of questions. And then the first game where he had the small cast on, he wasn’t confident enough to throw it in there consistently. He was a little tentative. So I don’t think we’ve seen what he can or can’t do until these last couple of games.”

Floyd played 77, 59 and 64 percent of the Bears’ defensive snaps in the first three weeks of the season, and played Weeks 1 and 2 with a protective club on his injured right hand. But even as his hand healed, his production didn’t return – at least, until the last three weeks.

In addition to that sack, Floyd has 12 total pressures in his last three games, accepting for 75 percent of his season total. He also has three quarterback hits in his last two games after only having one in his first eight games.

How does the University of Colorado firing their football coach affect the Bears? Their offensive coordinator could be a candidate for that opening.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported Sunday, following Colorado firing coach Mike MacIntyre, that Bears offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich could be a candidate for the opening. Helfrich spent his entire coaching career in college – including four seasons as Oregon’s head coach from 2013-2016 – and coached in the Pac-10/12 for 15 years. He was Colorado’s offensive coordinator from 2006-2008.

This report shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given the success of the Bears’ offense and how offensive coordinators – even if they’re not calling plays – are in high demand. Even if Helfrich didn’t return to the college ranks, another NFL team could try to lure him with play-calling duties, as the Tennessee Titans did with former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur after the 2017 season.

Saints vs Eagles

Saints vs Eagles : Having already scored 40 points five times, the high-flying New Orleans Saints host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in a must-win game for the defending Super Bowlchamps. Kickoff from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is at 4:25 p.m. ET.

New Orleans (8-1) won its eighth straight last week, destroying the Bengals 51-14. Meanwhile, Philadelphia (4-5) suffered a crucial division loss at home, 27-20 to the Cowboys. Sportsbooks list New Orleans as a 7.5-point favorite in the latest Saints vs. Eagles odds after the spread moved as high as nine. The Over-Under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, is 56.5, up 2.5 from the open and the second-highest total on the Week 11 NFL schedule. Before you make any Eagles vs. Saints picks, you have to see what SportsLine expert Larry Hartstein has to say.

Saints vs Eagles Live Free

SportsLine’s senior analyst is a stunning 15-5 in his last 20 picks involving the Saints after easily nailing New Orleans (-5) over Cincinnati last week. “A.J. Green’s absence, combined with the Bengals’ horrific defense, means I’m on the Saints to cover their seventh straight overall and improve to 20-7 ATS in their last 27 road games. Lay it,” urged Hartstein. The result: Saints 51, Bengals 14 — anyone who listed to him didn’t even break a sweat.

Moreover, Hartstein is an eye-popping 33-14 on all NFL point-spread picks this season. Anyone who has followed him is way, way up. Now, he has pounced on what he calls a mistake in the Eagles vs. Saints spread. He’s sharing his pick over at SportsLine.

Hartstein knows the Saints lead the NFL in scoring (36.7) while averaging a healthy 6.3 yards per play, which ranks sixth. At age 39, Drew Brees is perhaps playing his best football ever. He’s hit 77.3 percent of his throws for 2,601 yards and 21 touchdowns against one interception, while also rushing for three scores. Against Cincinnati, he fired just three incomplete passes.

Wideout Michael Thomas has 78 catches, second-most in NFL history after nine games, and do-it-all running back Alvin Kamara already has 14 touchdowns. And on defense, the Saints have cranked it up. During their eight-game winning streak, they’ve held five opponents to 20 or fewer points, including 14 to the Bengals in Cincinnati last week.

But just because the Saints have covered seven straight games doesn’t mean they’ll do it again against a desperate team with a championship pedigree.

Philly has not been an underdog all season, an indication of their prodigious talent. And the Eagles are 7-3 against the spread following a straight-up loss.

They’ll look to slow down Brees with a proud defense that ranks sixth in points allowed (20.3 per game). If the game turns into a shootout, quarterback Carson Wentz has shown he can keep up. He’s thrown 14 touchdowns against two interceptions over his last six outings and averages 307 passing yards per game this season. Zach Ertz leads all tight ends with 789 receiving yards and is coming off a monster performance in which he torched the Cowboys for 14 grabs, 145 yards and two touchdowns.

We can tell you Hartstein is leaning Over, but his much stronger play is against the spread. He says a strong x-factor makes one side of the spread a must-back. He’s sharing what it is, and who to back, only at SportsLine.

Los Angeles (7-2) is looking for some respect considering they’ve lost only one more game than the other new LA football team. Their winning streak is at six, though three of the opponent were the Raiders twice, and 49ers and Browns once.

Philip Rivers is playing at a very high level with 21 touchdowns versus only four picks on the season. If the defense can keep giving up 19 points or less like they have over the past five games then the rest of the AFC should be on notice.

Denver (3-6) have lost four of five and might as well be playing for a high draft pick at this point. Case Keenum has not been the quarterback they need so that draft pick is practically spoken for.

The Broncos lone win three games ago was against a confused Cardinals team so it’s no wonder they’re expected to lose by at least a touchdown.

Cam Newton and Carolina (6-3) were rolling right along with a three-game win streak entering last weekend’s meeting with the Steelers. They found out the hard way that Pittsburgh is among the NFL’s elite as the Steelers rolled to a 52-21 win.

Carolina’s defense will need to shake off that loss and prepare for a far less effective opponent.

Detroit (3-6) has lost three in a row to quality opponents in Chicago, Seattle and Minnesota. This tough stretch of their schedule continues against the Panthers and once again they’re picked to lose — this time by 4.5 points.

Troubling for the Lions has been their inability to get at opposing quarterbacks. Their defense has registered only 4 sacks in the past 3 games. That kind of effort will make it easy for Newton to pick their defense apart.

Steelers vs Jaguars

Pittsburgh (6-2-1) has emerged as a threat in the AFC alongside the Patriots and Chiefs. Ben Roethlisberger has his offense playing at the highest level including a 52 point outburst against Carolina last week.

Jacksonville (3-6) are watching their season waste away week after week. Last week’s 29-26 loss to the Colts was another reminder of how far they’ve fallen since appearing in last year’s AFC Championship game.

It’s hard to believe that the Jags are still top two in the NFL in pass and rush defense. That may not matter the way Pittsburgh’s offense is performing right now.
